The PC3K can be updated by one of two methods:
Notes on updating via thumb-drive:
*Thumb drives drawing 100 mA or less are recommended.
*We advise using the smallest capacity thumb drive you have available.
*After plugging the drive into the PC3K, wait for about a 30 seconds before proceeding with the install.
*The OS update .KUF file must be located in the drive's root (top) directory, not within any sub-folders. An "Error -2" message will be displayed if this is not the case.
*After copying the .KUF file to the thumb drive, be sure to to Eject/Unmount the Thumb Drive from your computer before physically unplugging it from the computer's USB port.
This update kit includes FOUR (4) different update files (.KUF), one for each possible configuration of optional ROM expansions. Via either update method, you will only be installing ONE (1) of the included .KUF update files. Choose the ONE(1) install file that matches your PC3Ks configuration:
My PC3K Has: File to Install NO ROM EXPANSIONS P3K241.KUF ONLY KORE 64 P3K241K.KUF ONLY GERMAN D GRAND EXP P3K241G.KUF BOTH GERMAN D GRAND EXP + KORE 64 P3K241GK.KUF
Note: if NOT installing the German D Grand or KORE 64 at this time, but obtain either at some later point, you will then need to reinstall this update, using the corresponding update file.
If unfamiliar with the process, please see the following link (or your manual) for details: "Backing Up the Entire User Memory"
Note: if you have the "K2661 ROM Compatibility File" installed it too will be erased in the update process and need to be reloaded afterwards. (If you are installing the German D Grand, this does not apply.)
(a) If updating via USB-to-Computer connection, connect USB cable between PC3K "Computer" USB port and any available USB port on your PC/Mac.
-OR-
(b) If updating via USB storage device (for ex. thumb drive) insert the device into to a free USB port on your computer .
Power the PC3K OFF. Press/Hold the EXIT button and turn the PC3K on. Release the EXIT button when the Boot Loader's menu of options appears on the screen:
Run System Run System System PC3K Update Diags Reset Utilities
You will use the various "soft buttons" under the screen to control the update process.
(a) If updating via USB-to-Computer connection: at step 9 (below), when selecting "PC USB" as your update method, a PC3K device image/temporary-drive will appear on your computer as a removable disk icon or a window. At that time you will be instructed to copy (drag and drop) the .KUF update file to this temporary removable disk. Be sure to copy the ONE appropriate file when prompted. For now, proceed.
(b) If updating via USB storage device: copy the ONE appropriate .KUF to the root directory of the device using the method specific to your computer system. Safely eject/unmount the device from your computer, afterwards physically remove it, then connect it to the PC3K "Storage" USB port (wait @30sec before proceeding).
