UPDATE METHODS:

The PC3 can be updated by one of two methods:

.PC3 SOUNDWARE OBJECT FILES:

This update kit includes two OBJECT files (.PC3), a "BASE" file for all units and an additional "KORE 64" file for those installing the KORE 64 Sound ROM Expansion option:

If installing KORE 64: in addition to the OS itself, you will be installing BOTH PC3OB212.PC3 (Base Objects) and XKORE225.PC3 (KORE 64 Objects)

If NOT installing KORE 64: in addition to the OS itself, you will ONLY install PC3OB212.PC3 (Base Objects)

Note: if NOT installing KORE 64 at this time, but obtain it at some later point, you will then need to reinstall this update, using both the Base and KORE 64 files.


UPDATE PROCEDURE:

!! Before updating, be sure to back up any custom programming as user memory will be erased in the process!!

If unfamiliar with the process, please see the following link (or your manual) for details: "Backing Up the Entire User Memory"

  1. Choose Update Method:

    (a) If updating via xD card insert the card into to the xD drive on your computer.

    -OR-

    (b) If updating via USB-to-Computer connection, connect USB cable between PC3 USB port and any available USB port on your PC/Mac.

  2. Enter the Bootloader.

    Power the PC3 OFF. Press and hold the EXIT button while you power-up the PC3. Release the EXIT button when the Boot Loader's menu of options appears on the screen:

                       RUN   UPDATE   RUN     SYSTEM   FILE
                       PC3   IMAGE    DIAGS   RESET    UTILITIES
    

    You will use the various "soft buttons" under the screen to control the update process.

    If using USB: a virtual USB drive will appear on your computer representing the PC3.

  3. Copy the update file(s):

    If using xD: Copy all .BIN and .PC3 system files to your xD card now:
    -File System Tool (PC3FT063.BIN)
    -Operating System (PC3OS221.BIN)
    -Base Objects (PC3OB212.PC3)
    -KORE 64 Objects (XKORE225.PC3) - only necessary if installing KORE 64

    Once copied, safely eject the xD card from your computer and insert the xD card into your PC3.

    If using USB: Copy just the PC3 File System Utility (PC3FT063.BIN) to the USB Desktop Drive on your computer.

  4. Press FILE UTILITIES:
                       RUN   UPDATE   RUN     SYSTEM   FILE
                       PC3   IMAGE    DIAGS   RESET    UTILITIES
    

  5. Press EXEC from file:
                       EXEC   COPY    SAVE            
                       from   from    to      FORMAT  
                       file   ext     ext     card     <back>
    

  6. Choose an external device: Depending on your connections, you may be asked to select between xD Card - or- USB port. If prompted, choose accordingly.
                       Choose an external device:
    				
    				
                            Card   USB port            CANCEL
  7. Using the data wheel , select the PC3FT063.BIN file (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):

    Example screen:

    		   Choose a file to execute:
                      ∗  PC3FT063.BIN    147K bytes           
                         
    
                     CHOOSE  DOWN   UP                 CANCEL
    			
  8. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to execute:
                      ∗  PC3FT063.BIN    147K bytes           
                         
    
                     CHOOSE  DOWN   UP                 CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a "Loading" message appear followed by the File System Utility Menu (depicted below). If installing by USB, your computer may issue a "device removal" notification. You can ignore it.

  9. Press FORMAT FLASH:
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    
  10. PRESS FORMAT to confirm:
    	         *** Formatting internal file system ***
    	
    		     All files will be deleted!
    		     Are you sure?
    		
    		   FORMAT   CANCEL

    You will briefly see a message displaying "Formatting internal file system". Followed by "File System Formatted".

  11. If using USB: Copy BOTH the PC3 OS File (PC3OS221.BIN) and BASE Objects File (PC3OB212.PC3) to the USB Desktop Drive on your computer.

    Note: If installing KORE 64 do NOT copy that file (XKORE225.PC3) at this point. It will be installed at a later step below.


  12. Press UPDATE IMAGE:
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    
  13. Press MAIN IMAGE:
                       What module do you want to update?

  14. Choose an external device: Depending on your connections, you may be asked to select between xD Card - or- USB port. If prompted, choose accordingly.

  15. Using the data wheel, select the OS file (PC3OS221.BIN) (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):

                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			
  16. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to load:
    		     PC3OB212.PC3    7785K bytes
                      ∗  PC3OS221.BIN    3741K bytes
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a message indicating "Copying Image..."

  17. Press OK:
                      Bootable system built.
    		  New module installed
    		
    		 OK
  18. Press UPDATE IMAGE:
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    
  19. Press MAIN OBJECT:

  21. Using the data wheel, select the Base OBJECT file (PC3OB212.PC3) (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):

                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			
  22. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to load:

                         PC3OS221.BIN    3741K bytes           
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a message indicating "Copying object datafile..."

  23. Press OK:
                      Copying object datafile...done
    		  New module installed
    		
    		 OK

  24. IF NOT INSTALLING KORE 64 - jump ahead to step 31 below.
    IF INSTALLING KORE 64 - continue here at step 24.



  25. If using USB (IMPORTANT): Delete the files in the temporary USB drive (drag them to the trash) and empty the trash on your computer . Then copy the KORE 64 Objects File (XKORE225.PC3) to the USB Desktop Drive on your computer.

  26. Press UPDATE IMAGE

                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    
  27. Press ALT OBJECT:
                       What module do you want to update?

  28. Choose an external device: Depending on your connections, you may be asked to select between xD Card - or- USB port. If prompted, choose accordingly.

  29. Using the data wheel, select the KORE 64 OBJECT file (XKORE225.PC3) (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):

    		   Choose a file to load:

                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			
  30. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to load:
    		  ∗  XKORE225.PC3    4544K bytes
                                   
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a message indicating "Copying object datafile..."

  31. Press OK:
                      Copying object datafile...done
    		  New module installed
    		
    		 OK
  32. Press QUIT:
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    

    If installing by USB, your computer may issue a "device removal" notification. You can ignore it.

  33. Press <back>:
                       EXEC   COPY    SAVE            
                       from   from    to      FORMAT  
                       file   ext     ext     card           <back>
    
  34. Press RUN PC3:
                       RUN   UPDATE   RUN     SYSTEM   FILE
                       PC3   IMAGE    DIAGS   RESET    UTILITIES
    

    The PC3 will reboot to normal operating mode and is ready for use.

  35. Confirm the update was installed correctly: Once powered back up, go to MASTER mode, press the OBJECT menu soft button. Confirm you see the following:

    With KORE 64 installed:

                       Object Ver  : 2.12.0 (ALT:2.20.5)
                       O/S Version : 2.21.19920 
    			

    Without KORE 64 installed:

                       Object Ver  : 2.12.0
                       O/S Version : 2.21.19920
    			

    If for some reason the install did not complete properly, simply power off and repeat from the beginning (step 2).
