System Update Instructions for the SP5

REQUIREMENTS:

Computer (Mac or PC) with USB port + USB cable.

UPDATE PROCEDURE:

!! Before updating, be sure to back up any custom programming!!

If you are unfamiliar with the data backup procedure, please see the SP5 Musician's Guide, Chapter 9 "Global Mode" (The "SaveAll?" Dialogue) for details.

The software updating procedure is detailed in Chapter 10 of the SP5 Musician's Guide but is repeated below for your convenience:

  1. Obtain the latest system updates.

    - Go to SP5-8 Downloads on our site.
    - Under "O/S Updates" download the current update package.

    (Be sure to carefully read through the included Release Notes.)

  2. Power the SP5 OFF.

  3. Connect the SP5 to your computer with a USB cable.

  4. Enter System Mode:

    Press/Hold the SHIFT button while you turn the SP5 ON.
    Release the SHIFT button once you see the following screen:

    SP5_8 System Mode
    Version  vX.XX

    At the same time, the SP5 will mount as a temporary, removable USB drive/device on your computer, named "SP5_8".

  5. Press Chan / Param UP once. The SP5 will display:

    SYSTEM MODE 2/5
    Update Software

  6. Press Next/+ once. The SP5 will display:

    Update Software 1/2
    Update

  7. Press Next/+ again. The SP5 will display:

    ("Copy file To drive and press OK to continue", scrolling)

    Update
    Copy file To drive and press OK to continue

  8. Copy the .KUF update file.

    Following the above prompt, on your computer, copy (drag/drop) the SP58V220.KUF file to the SP5_8 removable drive/device.

    Once the file is finished copying, "Safely Remove", "Unmount" or "Eject" the removable SP5_8 drive/device from your computer.

  9. Press Next/+ on your SP5. The SP5 will display:

    Update
    Installing...

    This step will take a minute or two to complete. When finished the SP5 will display:

    Update
    Done

  10. Power the unit off and back on normally.

    The unit will reboot to normal operating mode and is ready for use.

  11. Confirm the update was successful:

    Once powered back up, go to GLOBAL mode, press the Chan/Param Down once. Confirm you see the following :

    (OS:2.20.807 Obj:1.00.2, scrolling)

    Global          30/30
    OS:2.20.807 Obj:1.00.2

    If for some reason the install did not complete properly, simply repeat from the beginning.
