System Update Instructions for the SPS4-8

REQUIREMENTS:

Computer (Mac or PC) with USB port + USB cable.

UPDATE PROCEDURE:

!! Before updating, be sure to back up any custom programming as user memory will be erased in the process!!

If unfamiliar with backing up your data, please see the "Saving User Data (BackUp)" in our online KnowledgeBase and/or refer to the SPS4-8 Musician's Guide, Chpt. 9 "Global Mode" (The "SaveAll?" Dialogue) for details.

The software updating procedure is detailed in Chpt. 10 of the SPS4-8 Musician's Guide but is repeated below for your convenience:

  1. Obtain the latest system updates.

    - Go to the SPS4-8 Downloads page on our site.
    - Under "OS Updates" download the current update package.

    (Be sure to carefully read through the included Release Notes.)

  2. Power the SPS4-8 OFF.

  3. Connect the SPS4-8 to your computer with a USB cable.

  4. Enter System Mode:

    Press/Hold the SHIFT button while you turn the SPS4-8 ON.
    Release the SHIFT button once you see the scrolling title screen:

    SPS4-8 bootloader vX.XX

    You will next see:

    Run SPS4-8

    At the same time, the SPS4-8 will appear as a temporary, removable USB drive/device on your computer, similarly named "SPS4-8".

  5. Press Chan / Param Down once. The SPS4-8 will display:

    Update Software

  6. Press Next/+ once. The SPS4-8 will display:

    Update

  7. Press Next/+ again. A scrolling message will ask you to:

    Copy file to mounted drive on PC and click NEXT

  8. Copy the .KUF update file.

    Following the above prompt, on your computer, copy (drag/drop) the .KUF file to the SPS4-8 removable drive/device.

    Once the file is finished copying, "Safely Remove", "Unmount" or "Eject" the removable SPS4-8 drive/device from your computer.

  9. Press Next/+ on your SPS4-8. The SPS4-8 will display:

    Updating...

    This step will take a minute or two to complete. When finished the SPS4-8 will display:

    Done

  10. Power the unit off and back on normally.

    The unit will reboot to normal operating mode and is ready for use.

  11. Confirm the update was successful:

    Once powered back up, go to GLOBAL mode, press the Chan/Param Down once. Confirm you see the following (scrolling):

    OS: 2.10.685 Obj: 2.10.1

    If for some reason the install did not complete properly, simply repeat from the beginning.
